Ever-prone to earthquakes, Japanese homes have a practice of keeping a few gold fishes in a glass bowl. These are the first creatures to know about even the most minute of the quakes. Their restlessness is used as an indication to take the necessary precautions. The fish in the tattoo is perhaps caught in a major quake as I see the water splashing. Anyways, it’s a fine piece of art; more importantly the evidences of it’s oriental origin are clearly visible. Truly a masterpiece!

Well, alternately, it is a koi fish tattoo and is a world wide symbol for luck and good fortune! Guess there is more to Japan than just sushis, geishas and kimonos. Love the tattoo design. Intricate and beautiful.
