Have you ever wondered tattooing being an ancient trend how did people ink themselves in those days? There were no machine and no colors at that times, then how they tattooed...
I would like to share Aetius’ (Roman physician) recipe for tattooing in 6 A.D. Here is a step-by-step procedure to prepare tattoo ink and procedure to ink yourself, though it is a primitive.
• 1 lb. of Egyptian pine wood bark
• 2 ounces of corroded bronze, ground with vinegar
• 2 ounces of gall (insect egg deposits)
• 1 oz. of vitriol (iron sulphate)
• Mix well and sift. Soak powder in 2 parts water and 1 part leek juice.
• Wash the skin to be tattooed with leek juice.
• Prick design with needles until blood is drawn.
• Rub in the ink.
Please ensure that your needle is sterilized and take the advice of your doctor about the allergic quality of the ‘ink.’ However, are you ready to bear so much pain??

Interesting info! Did they use some safety measures that time while using the needles?
I have no idea.... please can anyone help us with this information...?
Of course it is much more advisable to go to a professional tattoo artist rather than dabbling with home made recipes!
;-)
wonder where they got th gall (insect egg deposits) from?
